ASA Section on
Crime, Law, and Deviance - The purpose of the Section on Crime, Law, and
Deviance is to foster the development of this aspect of sociology through the organized
interchange of ideas and research results. The Crime,
Law, and Deviance Section examines matters of sociological interest related to the study
and understanding of juvenile or adult law-violating behavior and the organization and
operation of law enforcement, judicial, and correctional processes.
American Society of Criminology - The American Society of Criminology is an international
organization concerned with criminology, embracing scholarly, scientific, and professional
knowledge concerning the etiology, prevention, control and treatment of crime and
delinquency. This includes the measurement and detection of crime, legislation and
practice of criminal law, as well as the law enforcement, judicial and correctional
systems.
The Critical
Criminology (American Society of Criminology) - The Division on Critical
Criminology is a division of the American Society of Criminology. The purposes are: 1) To
foster research and theory development in the field of
critical criminology, which is widely recognized as one of the several major paradigms in
criminology. 2) To provide a forum for members of the ASC to discuss ideas and to exchange
information, both through events at the annual
meetings and through a Divisional newsletter. 3) To organize conference sessions at ASC
meetings. 4) To encourage appropriate and effective teaching techniques and practices and
to stimulate the development of curricula related
to courses on critical criminology.
Forfeiture Endangers Americans'
Rights - Forfeiture Endangers American Rights is a national nonprofit
organization
dedicated to reform of federal and state asset forfeiture laws to restore due process and
protect property rights in the
forfeiture process. F.E.A.R. was formed in New Jersey in early 1992. John Paff and some
other members of his
local chapter of the Libertarian Party became concerned about asset forfeiture stories
they were reading in the newspapers and brought in some victims to speak to their group.
Several of the people present decided to do something about the issue. F.E.A.R. was a
spin-off of that meeting.
Friends
Outside - Friends Outside was founded in 1955 with the special mission of
reaching out to the children, families, and individuals who are coping with the impact of
imprisonment. We believe that the trauma of arrest, separation, public trial and
confinement can be as devastating to a family, especially children, as it is to the
arrested person. Children are particularly bewildered by this experience, and are
victimized by the embarrassment and poverty frequently thrust upon them through no fault
of their own.
National Victim Center - The
National Center for Victims of Crime (formerly the National Victim Center) is a non-profit
organization founded in 1985 and headquartered in Arlington, VA. The National Center is
the nations most effective resource and advocacy center for victims of crime. The
mission of the National Center for Victims of Crime is to forge a national commitment to
help victims of crime rebuild their lives. We are dedicated to serving individuals,
families and
communities harmed by crime.
Prison Activist
Resource Center - PARC is committed to exposing and challenging the
institutionalized racism of the criminal injustice system and to further developing
anti-racism as individuals and throughout our organization. PARC provides support for
educators, activists, prisoners, and prisoners' families. This work includes building
networks for action and producing materials that expose human rights violations while
fundamentally challenging the rapid expansion of the prison industrial complex.
Prostitutes' Education
Network - The Prostitutes' Education Network is an information service about
legislative and cultural issues as they effect prostitutes and other sex workers. The
service is comprised of information for sex workers and activists/educators who study
issues of decriminalization, human rights in the context of prostitution, violence against
prostitutes and women, sex workers and pornography, as well as current trends in
legislation and social policy in the U.S. and internationally.
Alcoholics
Anonymous - Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share
their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common
problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Maintained by Alcoholics Anonymous
World Services, Inc., the General Service Office of U.S./Canada.
Cocaine Anonymous World Services
- "Cocaine Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience,
strength and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help
others to recover from their addiction. The only requirement for membership is a desire to
stop using cocaine and all other
mind-altering substances."
Cures Not Wars
- organization devoted to the cure for drug use instead of the government war against
drugs program.
D.A.R.E. - D.A.R.E.
(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a collaborative effort by DARE certified law
enforcement officers, educators , students, parents and community to offer an educational
program in the classroom to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among children and
youth. The emphasis of DARE is to help students recognize and resist the many direct and
subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana,
inhalants, or other drugs or to engage in violence.

International Foundation on Drug Policy and Human Rights - The foundation for
drug policy and human rights is an international organization which tries to promote the
development and dissemination of international jurisprudence, knowledge, research and
other information in the field of drugpolicy, harm reduction and human rights.
Families Against Mandatory Minimums
- Families Against Mandatory Minimums Foundation (FAMM Foundation) is a national
organization of citizens working to reform federal and state mandatory sentencing laws
that remove judicial discretion. To ensure equity and fairness at all stages of the
sentencing process, FAMM also works to improve sentencing guidelines. Formed in 1991, FAMM
has 18,000 members and 25 volunteer-run chapters across the
country.
Drug Reform Coordination Network
- The Drug Reform Coordination Network's founding purpose is to stop the chaos and
violence of the illegal drug trade, end the bondage of mass incarceration suffered by
hundreds of thousands of nonviolent offenders, stem the spread of deadly epidemic disease,
secure the right of patients to appropriate medical treatment, restore Constitutional
protections and ensure just treatment under the law for all.

- Join Together is a national resource for communities fighting substance abuse and gun
violence. A project of the Boston University School of Public Health, funded by grants
from The Robert Wood Johnson and Joyce Foundations.
Narcotics Anonymous - World
Services - Narcotics Anonymous is an international, community-based association
of
recovering drug addicts. Started in 1947, the NA movement is one of the world's oldest and
largest of its type, with nearly twenty thousand weekly meetings in seventy countries.
Here we hope to explain what Narcotics Anonymous is and what its recovery program offers
to drug addicts.
NORML - National Organization for
the Reform of Marijuana Laws - Since its founding in 1970, NORML has been the
principal national advocate for legalizing marijuana. During the 1970s, NORML led the
successful efforts to decriminalize minor marijuana offenses in 11 states and
significantly lower penalties in all others. Though the decriminalization movement
eventually fell victim to the "war on drugs," NORML has remained the nation's
principal
organization dedicated to ending marijuana prohibition.
Teen Help - Teen
Help Adolescent Resources provides a national toll free hotline to assist parents, child
care professionals, and others in locating appropriate resources for the treatment of
adolescents struggling with making the best choices in their lives.
