ASA Section on Race, Gender, and Class
- The purpose of the Section on Race, Gender,and Class is to support research, teaching
and practice that examines the interactive effects of race, gender, and class phenomena,
and a curriculum which underscores the centrality of race, gender, and class in society
and in sociologic alanalysis.
The National Organization for Women
( NOW ) - NOW was established on June 30, 1966 in Washington, D.C., by people
attending the Third National Conference of the Commission on the Status of Women. Among
NOW's 28 founders was its first president, Betty Friedan, author of The Feminine Mystique
(1963). Another founder, the late Rev. Pauli Murray, an African-American woman and
Episcopal minister, co-authored NOW's original Statement of Purpose which begins: The
purpose of NOW is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream
of American society now, exercising all privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly
equal partnership with men. . .
Race, Gender, and Class

Race, Class, and Gender Project (SUNO) - The
Southern University at New Orleans Race, Gender and Class Project (SUNO-RGC Project) is an
interdisciplinary and multicultural center on race, gender and class studies housed in the
Department of Social Sciences. Our goal is to develop a forum that will attract
"organic intellectuals" within and outside academia for the study and resolution
of racial, ethnic, gender and social class issues. The authors believe that the creation
of the RGC Project at SUNO is the best location to become a local, national and
international vehicle for the struggle for social justice for all.
American Association of University
Women - The American Association of University Women is a national
organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls.
Business Women's Network
- BWNs mission is to continue to aggressively build upon our unique umbrella of
support
for women in business nationally and internationally. Our goal is to build more business
for more women across more borders. We will build significant information projects with
corporations and government agencies to provide women with the facts, information, support
and linkages they need to succeed.

connecting Feminists who are
Activists to resources on the Internet which could be of use. Sarah Stapleton-Gray tries
to connect people to other indexes about a particular topic of feminism, rather than to
the resources themselves.
Feminist Majority Foundation
- The name Feminist Majority is a consciousness-raiser, inspired by a Newsweek/Gallup
public opinion poll that showed the majority of women (56%) in the United States
self-identified as feminists. Most polls since then reveal that this majority continues
with over two-thirds of young women self-identifying as feminists. Most men, especially
young men, view themselves as supporters of the women's rights movement.
FEMINIST.COM - Our
primary goal is to help make networking for women -- both off and online -- easy to do. We
hope that FEMINIST.COM will become a place where women can meet, exchange ideas, get
information, build a business, become active, participate in government and empower
themselves and the world around them -- a woman's cyber community if you will.
Feminists For Free
Expression - Feminists for Free Expression is a group of diverse feminists
working to preserve the individual's right and responsibility to read, listen, view and
produce materials of her choice, without the intervention of the state "for her own
good." FFE believes freedom of expression is especially important for women's rights.
Gender and
Sexuality - This page publishes texts which address gender studies and queer
studies, with a particular focus upon discussions of sex, gender, sexual identity and
sexuality in cultural practices.
GLAAD - Gay & Lesbian Alliance
Against Defamation - GLAAD was formed in New York in 1985 and began by
protesting The New York Post's blatantly offensive and sensationalized stories about AIDS.
Its mission was to improve the public's attitudes toward homosexuality and put an end to
violence and discrimination against lesbians and gay men. The Los Angeles chapter was
formed in 1988, and early on began to educate Hollywood's entertainment industry on
the importance of more accurate and realistic portrayals on the screen. Subsequent
chapters have been formed in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, San Diego, San
Francisco and National Captial Area.
Global Fund for Women
- The GLOBAL FUND FOR WOMEN provides flexible, timely grants to women's groups around the
world striving to improve women's human rights. The challenges that women face vary widely
across communities, cultures, religious traditions, and countries. We believe that women
themselves know best how to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting
change.
Girls Global Education Fund - Girls Global Education
Fund (GGEF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 1996 to send girls to
school who would otherwise be denied an education. GGEF is unique in that we are the only
organization whose sole mission is to send girls to schools. To address the gender gap
that exists between girls and boys education we wanted to give girls a program
of their own.

- The Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) is an education, advocacy, and peer support
organization which works to create a world free of shame, secrecy, and unwanted surgery
for intersex people (individuals born with anatomy or physiology which differs from
cultural ideals of male and female).
Men's Rape Prevention Project - The Men's Rape
Prevention Project works to prevent rape and other forms of male violence through:
community education, consulting, research, and public action. We support men by providing
them with the resources and opportunities to challenge themselves and others to end sexual
violence.

Executives - Women@Work - The National Association for Female Executives
(NAFE), the largest womens professional association and the largest women business
owners organization in the country, provides resources and services through
education, networking, and public advocacy to empower its members to achieve career
success and financial security.
National Gay and Lesbian
Task Force - NGLTF is the national progressive organization working for the
civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people. NGLTF's vision and
commitment to social change is building a powerful political movement in the fifty states
and the District of Columbia.

Women in Science and Engineering- National Research Council - The Committee on
Women in Science and Engineering (CWSE) was established in 1991 as a standing committee of
the National Research Council (NRC). CWSE's mandate is to coordinate, monitor, and
advocate action to increase the participation of women in science and engineering. The
committee collects and disseminates information on the education and employment of women
scientists and engineers, and recommends ways to enhance women's advancement.
Pleiades Networks
- An Internet Resource for Women - Pleiades Networks is a place for women to
convene and share ideas in a comfortable and engaging environment. Our goal is to create a
community of women who share their knowledge and experience to help each other learn and
grow as individuals.
The Victorian Women
Writers Project - The goal of the Victorian Women Writers Project is to produce
highly accurate transcriptions of works by British women writers of the 19th century,
encoded using the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML). The works, selected with
the assistance of the Advisory Board, will include anthologies, novels, political
pamphlets, religious tracts, children's books, and volumes of poetry and verse drama.
Considerable attention will be given to the accuracy and completeness of the texts, and to
accurate bibliographical descriptions of them

Alternatives to Violence Project - The purpose of
the International Network is to encourage the development of the programme in different
countries by supporting each other, sharing information and offering support in
maintaining the integrity of AVP. People from all walks of life, different faiths
and ethnic origins and holding different faiths or professing none, have been challenged
to seek nonviolent ways of solving conflict and forming viable communities.

(IGC) - The Mission of IGC is to advance the work of progressive organizations and
individuals for peace, justice, economic opportunity, human rights, democracy and
environmental sustainability through strategic use of online technologies. The nonprofit
Institute for Global Communications (IGC) changed the way the progressive community worked
by introducing them to email, online discussions, mailing lists and the Web.
The Family Violence Prevention Fund - The
Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to
the elimination (prevention) of domestic violence. The goal of the FVPF is to create a
society where domestic violence is not acceptable, tolerated nor excused. To achieve this
goal, the FVPF is committed to mobilizing concerned individuals, allied professionals,
women's rights, civil rights, and other social justice organizations, and children's
groups to join the campaign to end domestic violence against all women and children
through public education/prevention campaigns, public policy reform, model training,
advocacy programs, and organizing.
