Center for the Study of Group
Processes - the Center for the Study of Group Processes was formally established
at the Department of Sociology of the University of Iowa. The mission of the center
includes: promoting basic research in the field of group processes enhancing the
professional development of faculty and graduate students in the social sciences;
facilitating the development of proposals for external funding; and strengthening the
reputation of the University of Iowa as an innovative place for theory-based, scientific
research on group processes.

American Sociological Association
- Sections Listings - Sections are constituent parts of the American Sociological
Association. The purpose of Sections is to promote the common interest of Association
members in specified areas of sociology. Both the growth of membership in the Association
and proliferation of specialties in sociology have brought about a need for Sections; they
are a means of increasing communication and interaction among persons of similar interests
within the framework of a larger organizations.
Society for Applied Sociology - founded in
1978, is an international organization for professionals involved in applying
sociological knowledge in a wide variety of settings.
North Carolina Sociological Association -
state-wide organization dedicated to the expansion of the field of sociology in education,
business, and the community.
Southern Sociological Society -
located at Mississippi State University to promote the development of sociology as a
profession and scientific discipline.
Anabaptist Sociology and Anthropology Association
- an organization for sociologists and anthropologists (and fellow travelers of these
disciplines) who either embrace or study the several Christian movements descended from
the Anabaptist movement of the 16th century (e.g., Amish, Brethren, Hutterite, Mennonite).
Social Science Computing Association - to
promote the development of computing within the social sciences through organized
activities and the interchange of ideas, data, teaching materials, experiences, research
results, and other resources.
Southwestern Social Science Association -
to stimulate and improve scientific research in the study of society and to
encourage communication and cooperative relations among persons engaged in this pursuit.
The Association for Humanist Sociology -
active support network for sociologists and other scholars committed to humanist values,
as they practice in institutions often hostile to such an approach.
