ASA Section on Race, Gender, and Class
- The purpose of the Section on Race, Gender,and Class is to support research, teaching
and practice that examines the interactive effects of race, gender, and class phenomena,
and a curriculum which underscores the centrality of race, gender, and class in society
and in sociologic alanalysis.
ASA Section on Racial and Ethnic
Minorities - The purpose of the Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities is to
encourage research, theory, and teaching concerning the relation between socially defined
racial and ethnic groups. The encouragement of scholarship contributing to the welfare of
all, rather than the promotion of any particular group's social or political interests, is
a paramount goal of the Section.
Anti-Defamation League -
ADL is America's prime resource for information on organized bigotry. The League collects
and assesses a vast amount of information on anti-Semites, racists and extremists. After
carefully evaluating information, ADL disseminates that information through books,
periodicals, videos, reports and other materials. The League also
monitors haters in cyberspace.
Birmingham Civil Rights
Institute - Dedicated on November 15, 1992, the Birmingham Civil Rights
Institute is a community's commitment to the courageous souls who walked to freedom. It is
also a testament to building bridges of understanding among all people.
Ethnicity, Racism and Media
ERaM - ERaM is a discussion forum, hosted by St. Johns University, devoted to all
aspects pertaining to the role of mass media in generating and disseminating
representations of race and ethnicity. Collectively, ERaM provides a global research
network open to those academics, media professionals and others engaged in systematic
research or professional practice in the area of ethnicity, racism and media.
The Final Call Online Edition
- The Final Call Newspaper is the country's leading source for news and information
about issues and events relative to the Black community. Published by the Honorable Louis
Farrakhan, National Representative of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, The Final Call
follows in the tradition of Muhammad Speaks,
with hard-hitting national and international news and coverage of political issues. It is
the official communications organ of the Nation of Islam.
Holocaust Museum- The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives online catalog provides a
means for searching and retrieving information for collections in its current holdings.
The system allows the user to search the catalog by keyword, personal name, Library of
Congress Subject Heading, and geographic place name.Among the collection formats are
personal papers and manuscripts, oral history interviews on videotape, audio tape, motion
picture film, microfilm and microfiche, musical and non-musical sound recordings, music
manuscripts, small art works, and various photographic formats.
Holocaust Museum -
C.A.N.D.L.E.S. - C.A.N.D.L.E.S. which stands for Children of Auschwitz
Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors is the only museum of its kind in the State of
Indiana. Its purpose is to educate the public about the horrors of the holocaust and to
tell the story of the childeren who survived.
Timeline of the American Civil Rights
Movement - These pages were created in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in
observance of Martin Luther King Day, 1996. They are an ongoing project supported by
students at Western Michigan University's Department of Political Science.
National Civil Rights
Museum - The National Civil Rights Museum offers the first and only
comprehensive overview of the civil rights movement in exhibit form. It is an educational
institution designed to help visitors understand the civil rights movement and how this
movement impacted movements for social rights worldwide.
The National Urban League
- Founded in 1910, the National Urban League is the premier social service and civil
rights organization in America. The League is a nonprofit, community-based organization
headquartered in New York City, with 115 affiliates in 34 states and the District of
Columbia. The mission of the National Urban League is to assist African Americans in the
achievement of social and economic equality. The League implements its mission through
advocacy, bridge building, program services and research.
Civil Rights Oral History Bibliography -
A bibliography of Oral History Interviews on the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi, the
research was conducted in the fall of 1997 by the staff members at the University of
Southern Mississippi's Center for Oral History and Cultural Heritage and at the Tougaloo
College Archives. The work was funded by the Mississippi State Legislature through a grant
administered jointly by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the
Mississippi Humanities Council.

Rosa Parks - Pioneer of
Civil Rights - Rosa Parks has been called the "mother of the civil rights
movement" and one of the most important citizens of the 20th century. Mrs. Parks was
a seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama when, in December of 1955, she refused to give up her
seat on a city bus to a white passenger. Her act sparked a citywide boycott of the bus
system by blacks that lasted more than a year. Over the next four decades, she helped make
her fellow Americans aware of the history of the civil rights struggle.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers Project
- The King Papers Project is a major research effort to assemble and disseminate
historical information concerning Martin Luther King, Jr. and the social movements in
which he participated. Initiated by the Atlanta-based King Center for Nonviolent Social
Change, the King Papers Project is one of only a few large-scale research ventures
focusing on an African American.

Malcolm X - A Research Site - a resource
for scholarship in Black Studies and the political development of activists in the Black

European Research Centre on
Migration and Ethnic Relations - ERCOMER is a European research centre
with a strong interest in comparative research in the fields of international migration
and ethnic relations within the European context. We are based at the Faculty of Social
Sciences, Utrecht University, the Netherlands. ERCOMERs core activities are all
related to the furthering and dissemination of comparative research in the fields of
international migration and ethnic relations. Research at ERCOMER is largely, but not
exclusively, centered on the Europe.

Institute - Texas A & M University - The Race and Ethnic Studies
Institute's mission is to conduct and disseminate--at regional, national, and
international levels--interdisciplinary and policy research pertaining to race and
ethnicity across various public policy areas. The objectives of the Institute are: To
conduct timely and useful research on U.S. race and ethnicity, especially as it pertains
to the nation's major racial minorities; To serve as a data resource and knowledge base
for university, government and community representatives who are addressing issues of race
and ethnic diversity; and To foster the development of students in professional
preparation for the study of U.S. race and ethnic relations.

Southern
Poverty Law Center - The Southern Poverty Law Center was founded in 1971 as a small civil rights law firm. Today, the Center is internationally known for its tolerance education programs, its legal victories against white supremacists and its tracking of hate groups.
Located in Montgomery, Alabama – the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement – the Center was founded by Morris Dees and Joe Levin, two local lawyers who shared a commitment to racial equality. Its first president was civil rights activist Julian Bond.
Throughout its history, the Center has worked to make the nation's Constitutional ideals a reality. The Center's legal department fights all forms of discrimination and works to protect society's most vulnerable members, handling innovative cases that few lawyers are willing to take. Over three decades, it has achieved significant legal victories, including landmark Supreme Court decisions and crushing jury verdicts against hate groups.
Teaching Tolerance
- In 1991, Teaching Tolerance began supporting the efforts of K-12 teachers and other educators to promote respect for differences and an appreciation of diversity.
As part of its mandate, Teaching Tolerance publishes a semiannual self-titled magazine that profiles educators, schools and programs promoting diversity and equity in replicable ways. In addition, the program produces and distributes free, high-quality anti-bias multimedia kits.
