ASA Section on Sociology of
Sexualities - For the Sociology of Sexualities to gain status as an ASA Section would
be very beneficial to all academics and practitioners who conduct and/or value research in
the area of sexuality. Sections are an important mechanism for getting out information
about our specialty area. The lack of an ASA section on sexuality has the unfortunate
effect of devaluing and marginalizing studies of sexuality.
Sexuality Information Council of the United States
(SIECUS) - The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the
U.S. (SIECUS) is a national, nonprofit organization which affirms that sexuality is a
natural and healthy part of living.
Incorporated in 1964, SIECUS develops, collects, and disseminates information, promotes
comprehensive education about sexuality, and advocates the right of individuals to make
responsible sexual choices.
Mary S. Calderone Library -
The Mary S. Calderone library, housed at SIECUS, The Sexuality Information and Education
Council of the United States), is one of the few libraries in the U.S. which collects
materials specifically related to human sexuality and comprehensive sexuality education.
The library, which serves professionals, students, educators, and the media; is the only
sexuality collection in the United States that is accessible to the general public for
research.
The Society for the Study of Sexuality (SSSS)
- The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS) is an international
organization dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about sexuality. It is the oldest
organization of
professionals interested in the study of sexuality in the United States.
The Sociologist Lesbian and Gay
Caucus (SLGC) - The Sociologists' Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Caucus is
organized to: Encourage unprejudiced sociological research on lesbians and gay men and
their social institutions; Provide a forum for current research, teaching methods and
materials, and professional issues relevant to homosexuality; Monitor anti-gay ideologies
in the distribution of sociological knowledge and to investigate practices oppressive to
lesbians and gay men; Oppose discrimination against gay and lesbian sociologists in
employment, promotion, tenure, and research situations; and Maintain a social support
network among its members.
The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom - The
National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF) is a national advocacy and lobbying
organization promoting tolerance of sexual minorities and of those who engage in, write
about, or study sexual minority practices among consenting adults. The NCSF constituency
is broad and includes people of all orientations.
SIECCAN - SIECCAN is the Sex Information
and Education Council of Canada, a national non-profit educational organization
established in 1964 to foster public and professional education about human sexuality.
SIECCAN is dedicated to informing and educating the public and professionals about all
aspects of human sexuality in order to support the positive integration of sexuality into
people's lives.
The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality
(CJHS) is a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by SIECCAN, the Sex
Information and Education Council of Canada. The journal publishes manuscripts from a
variety of disciplines involved in the study of human sexuality. CJHS is the only english
language, Canadian-based scholarly publication that specifically focuses on the medical,
psychological, and social aspects of human sexuality.
Alan Guttmacher Institute - The mission of The
Alan Guttmacher Institute (AGI) is to protect the reproductive choices of all women and
men--in the United States and throughout the world. It is to support their ability to
obtain the information and services needed to achieve their full human rights, safeguard
their health and exercise their individual responsibilities in regard to sexual behavior,
reproduction and family formation.
The Kinsey Institute - The Kinsey
Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction is a private, not-for-profit
corporation affiliated with Indiana University. It was founded in 1947. The mission of The
Kinsey Institute is to promote interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the fields of
human sexuality, gender, and reproduction. The Institute carries out this mission through:
development of specialized collections of resources for scholars; programs of research and
publication; interdisciplinary conferences and seminars; provision of information services
to researchers; and graduate training.
World Association of Sexology
- The World Association for Sexology was founded in 1978 and has worked to further the
understanding and development of sexology throughout the world. With approximately 100
member organizations and numerous individual memberships, representing over 30 countries
in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America and Australia, the WAS brings individuals
and organizations together to share scientific information, form networks, and promote
international and intercultural exchange.
Sexual
and Relationship Therapy - is an international refereed journal for everyone
professionally concerned with sexual and marital function. Its readers include academics
and researchers, clinicians, therapists and counsellors. Sexual and marital difficulties,
and their alleviation, are an increasing part of the workload of professionals from many
different disciplines, including medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing, counselling
and social work. The scope of the journal reflects this diversity of professional
interests, and articles will communicate across disciplines without loss of excellence.
Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Sozialwissenschaftliche
Sexualforschung - German Society for Social Scientific Sex
Research, Inc. (DGSS) For the past quarter of a century, sociological, behavioral, and
cultural sex research has had a name: "Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Sozialwissenschaftliche Sexualforschung e. V." (short: DGSS). Founded in 1971 by Rolf
Gindorf, it is the second-oldest German-language sexological society still active. From
the very beginning, the DGSS has emphasized the importance of the social, behavioral, and
cultural sciences for an adequate understanding of the human sexualities in their many
forms, facets, and variations.
Robert Koch Institute Archiv fur
Sexualwissenschaft (Archive for Sexology) the mission of the Institute is to promote,
protect, and preserve sexual health through original research and by collecting, analyzing
and disseminating scientific information from other sources. In its mission, the Archive
follows the WHO recommendations of 1975.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
- Founded in 1916, Planned Parenthood is the world's largest and oldest voluntary family
planning organization. Planned Parenthood is dedicated to the principles that every
individual has a fundamental right to decide when or whether to have a child, and that
every child should be wanted and loved.
The International Planned Parenthood Federation -
International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) links national autonomous Family
Planning Associations (FPAs) in over 150 countries worldwide. It is registered as a
charity in the United Kingdom and is the largest voluntary organization in the world to be
concerned with family planning and sexual and reproductive health.

Asian and Pacific Islander
Wellness Center - The mission of Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center is
to
educate, support, empower and advocate for Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI)
communities -- particularly A&Ps living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS. Asian &
Pacific Islander Wellness Center (A&PIWC) is the oldest and most comprehensive,
non-profit HIV/AIDS services organization in North America targeting Asian and Pacific
Islander (A&PI) communities.
Demographic and Health
Surveys - Demographic and health surveys provide information on family
planning, maternal and child health, child survival, HIV/AIDS/STIs (sexually transmitted
infections), and reproductive health. In addition, DHS+ can assist with improving on-going
data collection efforts, such as health information systems, to efficiently meet
information needs in a cost-effective manner.
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) - The
Department of Health and Human Services is the United States government's principal agency
for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services,
especially for those who are least able to help themselves. The Department includes more
than 300 programs, covering a wide spectrum of activities.
National Institute of Health
- The NIH is one of eight health agencies of the Public Health Services which, in turn, is
part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Comprised of 25 separate
Institutes and Centers, NIH has 75 buildings on more than 300 acres in Bethesda, MD. The
NIH mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to
better health for everyone. NIH works toward that mission by: conducting research in its
own laboratories; supporting the research of non-Federal scientists in universities,
medical schools, hospitals, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad;
helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of medical
information.
