ASA Section on Race, Gender, and Class
- The purpose of the Section on Race, Gender,and Class is to support research, teaching
and practice that examines theinteractive effects of race, gender, and class phenomena,
and a curriculum whichunderscores the centrality of race, gender, and class in society and
in sociologic alanalysis.

Economic Security for All: How to End
Povery in the United States - online book by Wade Hudson published as a paperback by
the Economic Security Project in 1996. Presents current and historical infomation and
analysis of economic insecurity and related issues; proposes a 10-point program for
establishing economic security in the United States, and; presents a strategy for
achieving that goal.
Income and Poverty - an
overview of American income statistics, with interpretations, from the Left Business
Observer. This is a revised version of a piece that appeared in LBO #80 (November 1997).
Boom for whom? - This article
appeared in Left Business Observer #93, February 2000. "Boom" is the word
typically used to describe the U.S. economy these days. True enough if you own stocks.
But, according to the Census Bureau's annual reports on income and poverty published last
fall, the median U.S. household - the one in the very middle of the income distribution,
with half the households above it, and half below - was only just a hair better off in
1998 than it was in 1989. In fact, most of the boom years have been devoted to recovering
the income losses of the early 1990s.
Inequality.org - Inequality.org is a nonprofit
organization. We don't advocate any particular policy or set of policies. Our aim is to
circulate information and ideas that are not widely covered in the media. We are a network
of journalists, writers and researchers trying to look beyond conventional economics and
its notions of prosperity and progress.
Panel Study of Income Dynamics - The
PSID is a longitudinal survey of a representative sample of US individuals and the
families in which they reside. It has been ongoing since 1968. The data are collected
annually, and the data files contain the full span of information collected over the
course of the study. PSID data can be used for cross-sectional, longitudinal, and
intergenerational analysis and for studying both individuals and families.
Responsible Wealth - Founded in 1997,
Responsible Wealth is affiliated with United for a Fair Economy (UFE), a national
non-profit devoted to putting a spotlight on the dangers of excessive inequality of income
and wealth in the United States. Our work is focused on four areas: (1) We advocate fair
taxes. (2) We support a living wage for all.
(3) We call for greater corporate accountability. (4) We promote broadened asset ownership
for all Americans.
United for a Fair Economy - United for a Fair
Economy is part of a broad social movement of people concerned that the concentration of
wealth is hurting our nation. Its goal is to revitalize America through a more fair
distribution of wealth. United for a Fair Economy was first formed in 1994 by community
organizers from the labor, women's, civil rights, and anti-poverty movements. These
organizers came together to reframe their organizing efforts in the context of the
dramatic shift in wealth and power that has occurred in the last 15 years.

- The University of Texas Inequality Project is a small research group concerned with
measuring and explaining movements of inequality in wages and earnings and patterns of

Bay Area Homelessness Project -
BAHP is a regional campus-based consortium of sixteen colleges and universities.
The mission of BAHP is to carry out the goals of homelessness prevention through student
leadership, curriculum, community service learning & popular education, and community
partnerships related to public policy, applied research and advocacy. Currently BAHP
is supported by the Department of Health Education at San Francisco State
University.
Emergency Food and Shelter National Board
Program - United Way - The Emergency Food and Shelter Program began in 1983 with a $50
million federal appropriation. The program was created by Congress to help meet the needs
of hungry and homeless people throughout the United States and its territories by
allocating federal funds for the provision of food and shelter.

opportunities and occupational capabilities through a network of autonomous, nonprofit,
community-based organizations providing services throughout the world in response to local
needs.
The Hunger Project - The most defining
characteristic of The Hunger Project is that we are shaped by an unyielding commitment to
the end of chronic, persistent hunger. We focus on the human component of ending hunger.
We recognize that the persistence of hunger is most fundamentally a human issue, not a
technical or financial one.
Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) -
University of Wisconsin - Madison - The Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) is a
national, university-based center for research into the causes and consequences of poverty
and social inequality in the United States. The Institute was established in 1966 at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison by the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity, the
organization given responsibility for reducing poverty in America.
National Coalition for the Homeless - the National
Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) engages in public education, policy advocacy, and
grassroots organizing. Our Mission is to end homelessness.
Social Policy Research Centre - University of New
South Wales - the Social Welfare Research Centre was established in January 1980 on
the basis of a five-year Agreement between the Commonwealth Government and the University
of New South Wales. Funding for the Centre is provided under the Agreement by the
Commonwealth through the Department of Social Security. The Centre operates as an
independent unit of the University and undertakes research into a wide range of social
policy issues. The findings of this research are made available to specialist audiences
and the general public through publications, seminars and conference presentations.
